Bible Classes

Studying God's Word is the only way for His children to know His will. In addition to Bible based lessons during times of worship, Riverwood has classes for all ages during Bible study times - from pre-school through adult classes. We are blessed with tremendous Bible teachers and educational supervisors. Adult classes are listed below.

Sunday Morning Adult Classes - 10:15 a.m.

The Book of Matthew
Taught by Kirk Waite in the Auditorium

This is a verse by verse in depth study of the first gospel. Matthew's target audience is the Jews. This book will use a large number of Old Testament references to prove that Jesus is truly the Messiah.

"Some Lessons We Learn from Jesus"
Taught by Bill Clark in Room 14

Without doubt, Jesus was the greatest teacher of all time. His knowledge, His work, His love, His teachings, and His sacrifice were and are unsurpassed. It is appropriate for us to look to Him to learn How to be His followers. Some topics include: How to teach, How to answer questions, How to pray, How to grow, How to deal with temptations, How to live, How to die, etc.

Young Adults Class (Ages 18-29) - "The Character of Jesus"
Taught by Dustin Welch in Room 310

We've all heard the stories. Some of us have even memorized the names, dates and facts. But do we really know the character of the man who forever changed life on our planet? In many ways Jesus is just as much an enigma today as he was when he walked the earth. His words, actions and motives seem so foreign to our minds. Our goal is to dig beneath the surface facts of the gospel and come to better know the man Jesus.

Young Families Class - The Book of 'James'
Taught by Dennis Green in the Fellowship Hall

James was written to help us understand and attain spiritual maturity: "...that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing" (James 1:4b). Not everbody who grows old, grows up. There is vast difference between age and maturity. The results are problems --- in the personal life, in the home, in the church. With spiritual growth we become victors instead of victims. Come join us in the study of one of the most pointed and practical letters of the New Testament.

"Boulders, Rocks and the Hammer - Coping with Today’s Opportunities"
Taught by Rick Binkley in Room 10

We live in very challenging times for followers of Christ. Come join us as together we discuss how Christians continue to please God in the face of cultural moral changes, belief systems which contradict God’s Word and an apparent opposition to being true to our Lord.

The Book of Acts (Young Marrieds Class)
Taught by Phil Sanders in Room 301

Come and join us as we learn about the acts of the apostles. Jesus entrusted a handful of people to the building and growth of the church following his ascension. Acts will give much of the history of the early church and provide many lessons along the way.

Wednesday Morning Adult Class (September through April) - 10:00 a.m.

The Pastoral Epistles
Taught by Dustin Welch in the Fellowship Hall

Faithfulness is one of the foundational teachings throughout Scripture. In the Old Testament we witness time and again God's patiently loving faithfulness. Unfortunately, we as humans have a long-standing track record of responding to the Father's faithfulness with callousness and spiritual adultery. In writing to his younger Christian co-workers, the apostle Paul provides us with encouragement and admonition that we may learn a better way, a more righteous response and to become truly faithful.

Wednesday Evening Adult Classes - 7:00 p.m.

"Roses in December" (Ladies' Class)
Taught by Donna Baldwin in the Fellowship Hall

Relax, and walk down memory lane in the Scriptures as we study this book by Jane McWhorter. It deals with lessons from the scriptures about remembering. How has God preserved memories for His children? Why is the brain designed to forget, as well as to remember? What are the “remembering” responsibilities of a Christian? How can I make and preserve good memories?
